Sinus infection is one of the common and rapidly spreading infections across the world. It is very painful and uncomfortable. Sinus problems are caused by an infection in the cavities or sinuses which is present in the bones near the nose. If there is any swelling in the cavities due to some infection caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi which grow and leads to difficulty in breathing that result in fever, headaches, common cold and other discomforts. Sinus infection is also called as sinusitis across the world.

The most common cause of sinus infection is the cold. Most people who suffer from their very first sinus problem usually get it from an episode of the common cold. But sinusitis can also be caused by flying or scuba diving because of the pressure changes that occur. Pregnancy is another common cause as there are hormonal changes that can cause swelling of the nasal passage. Asthma patients can also have sinus issues. There are also some other factors which cause sinus problems like genetic factors, anatomy of our nose and accidents which resulted in changes to the structure of the nose.

Sinus infections are of various types- acute sinusitis, chronic sinusitis, recurrent sinusitis sphenoid sinusitis, frontal sinusitis, ethmoid sinusitis and maxillary sinuses. These infections are located at different areas of the face of human body. These infections can come on suddenly and then leave after proper and accurate treatment. This can last a few weeks, or if it is chronic problem than it will lasts more than eight weeks at a time with at least four occurrences yearly.

There are varied kinds of sinus infection symptoms which depend upon the sinus that is infected. There can be pain anywhere near the sinuses. Some other symptoms are headache, pain in ear or neck, upper jaw, cheeks, teeth, swelling of the eyelids, nasal discharge, loss of smell and tenderness near the nose. Acute sinusitis can also lead to infection in the brain or some other complications.

The treatment for sinus infection is usually the same as most other types of infection. Antibiotics will be prescribed to reduce infection. Even nasal sprays are also effective. There are also home made remedies like cold or hot compress, pepper, jalapeno, ripe grape juice etc. These all can provide effective relief from sinus problems. Plus healthy and nutritional diet also helps the body to control the symptoms of sinus infection.
